Swindon has always been a town of making and moving. From canals and trams, through to trains, planes and cars, this is a town that’s always on the go.
This exhibition explores Swindon’s transport history through seven stories. It’s not an encyclopaedic history of our transport in the town, but a look at some of the innovations, successes and tragedies that have changed the face of Swindon, including:
The Golden Lion Bridge, and the Wilts and Berks Canal
The Swindon Tram Disaster of 1906
Pressed Steel, and car manufacturing in Swindon
The M4: The arrival of the motorway in 1970
It will also look at aeroplanes, submarines and the Old Town railway station!
