Bournemouth Arts Club 1920-2020: A Mirror of the Times

Over the past 100 years Bournemouth Arts Club (BAC) has responded to radical ideas and changing approaches in art.  Dr Gill Clarke will discuss BAC’s formation and how under its Presidents Sir David Murray, Henry Lamb, Richard Eurich and others, it sought to foster expertise through lectures, weekend schools, and exhibitions which were often held at the Russell-Cotes Art Gallery & Museum.  Exhibitions featured loans from nationally significant collections including in 1957 from the Swindon Collection which will also be highlighted.  Members’ work to be featured will include Maxwell Armfield, Lucy Kemp-Welch, Harold Williamson and more recently Martin Brewster, Kenneth Hatts, Joy Parsons and Jennifer Surridge.
